Cannot open your mouth?
When your mouth opens only a few millimetres, the cause is usually an infection around a wisdom tooth or inflammation in the muscles around it. It is a sign the problem has moved beyond the tooth.

What you can do now
- Do not force your mouth open. Stay on soft food and liquids until you are seen.
- Cold compress on the cheek, on the painful side, ten minutes at a time.
- If you are struggling to breathe or swallow, call 112 immediately.
